The trial of former Finance Minister Tendai Biti and Morgan Ncube has been postponed again.
The case will now resume on 1 September 2026, after another delay in court.
Biti and Ncube appeared before Mutare Magistrate Honest Musiiwa on Thursday.
However, proceedings did not begin, forcing the court to postpone the matter.
The two were arrested on 21 March 2026 over allegations linked to a public meeting.
They are accused of organising a gathering in Mutare without notifying authorities.
The charges fall under Section 7(5) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11:23].
According to Prosecutor Brighton Garikai Chiromo, Biti is the CDF convener.
Meanwhile, Ncube serves as the organisation’s national programmes director.
The State alleges they organised the meeting at 26B Carrington, Darlington, Mutare.
Authorities claim the gathering focused on the Constitution Amendment Bill (CAB) 3.
However, prosecutors allege the pair lacked approval to discuss the proposed amendments publicly.
The State further claims Mutare Central District authorities were not informed about the meeting.
Court Case Faces Multiple Postponements Since March Arrest
Following their arrest, Biti and Ncube secured bail of US$500 each.
However, the court attached several strict conditions to their release.
The conditions included reporting twice weekly to the CID Law and Order section.
They were also ordered to surrender travel documents where necessary.
Additionally, they were barred from interfering with witnesses.
The case has experienced several delays since it first appeared in court.
Initially, the trial was postponed to 26 May after the State requested more time.
Later, the matter moved to 16 June before another postponement followed.
The court then scheduled proceedings for 16 July.
However, the trial again failed to start on that date.
Consequently, the court moved the matter to 1 September 2026.
Biti and Ncube continue to deny the allegations against them.
They are represented by Chris Ndlovu of Gonese and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners.
