UZ Lecturers Strike Over Low Monthly Salaries
UZ lecturers were caught on camera demonstrating against low salaries, and the video has since gone viral. In the video, the lecturers held placards showing that they received just over US$200 monthly salaries.
This followed a recent victory in court, where the judge said they had the right to take industrial action when they wanted. The court case was after three lecturers were arrested at the University for striking. UZ argued that the lecturers were supposed to be educating and were in breach of their contracts.

However, after their court victory, the lecturers went to the streets to show that they would not be going back to work until concerns were addressed. They even threatened to get more university lecturers from all over Zimbabwe to join in their strike.

Thank you for this. It’s really unfair to teach someone for them to go out there and make like ten fold of your salary. I think lecturers deserve more. They have spent years investing in education to empower us and to elk a living out of it
