6 Dead After Broken-Down Tipper Triggers Horror Passenger Vehicle Pile-Up

Six people have died after a passenger vehicle crashed into a broken-down tipper truck on the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road before a second vehicle piled into the wreckage. The horror crash happened on Sunday, 23 August 2026, leaving three other people seriously injured.

Passenger Vehicle Crashes Into Broken-Down Tipper

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the fatal accident on Monday, 24 August 2026.

Police said the crash happened at the 197-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road at around 7:15pm.

A Nissan NV350 carrying six people was travelling towards Filabusi when it allegedly crashed into a stationary Howo tipper truck. The truck had broken down on the road and had no occupants.

The impact was followed by another collision.

Honda Fit Piles Into Crash

According to the ZRP, a Honda Fit carrying three people was travelling behind the Nissan NV350 when it crashed into the rear of the passenger vehicle.

All six people in the Nissan died at the scene.

The three occupants of the Honda Fit sustained serious injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

The ZRP said:

“All six occupants who were travelling in the Nissan NV350 died on the spot, while the three occupants of the Honda Fit sustained serious injuries.”

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Filabusi District Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Police Promise More Details

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.

The ZRP said more information would be released in due course.

The incident has left six people dead and three others seriously injured following a chain of collisions involving the broken-down truck, the Nissan NV350 and the Honda Fit.
