Goromonzi Brothers Arrested Over US$21 891 Gold Scam
Two Goromonzi brothers have been arrested for defrauding their churchmate of US$21 891 through a gold-buying scheme and later fabricating a robbery story to cover up the alleged scam.
Tawanda Mutando, 38, and Knowledge Mutando, 32, are accused of misleading Terence Mashiri into investing in their gold-buying business before allegedly using part of the money to acquire a residential stand and build a house.
They are facing fraud charges.

Gold Business Proposal
According to The Herald, the fraud dates back to September 2025, when Tawanda approached Mashiri with a proposal to partner in a gold-buying business.
The State alleges that Tawanda showed Mashiri a permit purportedly issued by Fidelity Gold Refinery (Private) Limited.
The document authorised him to operate as a gold buyer and identified Knowledge as an agent.
Mashiri, who works for Blue Stream Finance, allegedly trusted the arrangement and handed Tawanda US$31 700.
Knowledge was responsible for buying gold, while Tawanda would account for the money and gold obtained through the venture.
Refund Request Leads To Dispute
In January 2026, Mashiri requested US$15 000 from his investment for personal use.
Tawanda returned only US$5 500 two days later, leaving US$26 200 outstanding.
The State alleges that Knowledge later told Mashiri he had bought 136.82 grammes of gold for US$14 571.33.
He claimed that he was transporting the gold to Harare for safekeeping.
Alleged Robbery Story Exposed
When Knowledge arrived in Harare, he told Mashiri that he had been robbed.
According to the State, he claimed the gold and money had been stolen during the incident.
However, about a month later, Mashiri discovered that the robbery story was false.
The State alleges that Knowledge had instead used the money to buy a residential stand and build a house in Goromonzi.
Mashiri reportedly confronted the brothers at their residence, where they allegedly admitted that the robbery had been fabricated.
Property Offered As Repayment
The brothers agreed to compensate Mashiri after the confrontation.
They reportedly offered to surrender the residential stand as part of the repayment.
However, only US$6 820 has been recovered so far.
The State alleges that Mashiri suffered actual prejudice amounting to US$21 891 because of the misrepresentations.
Brothers Granted Bail
Tawanda and Knowledge were granted bail and remanded to a later date as the matter continues.
