Donnybrooke Land Dispute: Home Seekers Take Land Baron To Police
A dispute over residential stands in Donnybrooke turned confrontational on Tuesday when several home seekers took a suspected land baron to Mabvuku Police Station.
According to H-Metro, the group accused Lameck Francis Mutede of taking payments for stands that he had no legal authority to sell.
The allegations centre on land being developed by Pure Gold Housing Trust and Shelter Zimbabwe.
Disputed Stand Sales
According to the complainants, they dealt directly with Mutede and paid money after being offered residential stands at the Donnybrooke site.
Problems reportedly surfaced when the buyers encountered the organisations responsible for developing the area.
The home seekers then sought police intervention, leading to Mutede being taken to the station by some of those accusing him.
One of the complainants claimed Mutede had been operating on the disputed land since 2024.
The victim alleged that he had collected substantial amounts from people searching for residential land, despite allegedly lacking permission to sell the stands.

Some Buyers Already Building
The dispute has also left some alleged buyers with structures on the property.
Several home seekers reportedly began putting up buildings at the site after obtaining the stands they believed they had purchased.
However, the area has not yet been completely serviced, according to the information provided.
The situation has therefore created uncertainty for people who have already invested money and begun construction.
Police Probe The Allegations
Multiple complaints were recorded at Mabvuku Police Station as authorities began looking into the alleged land transactions.
The investigation is expected to establish whether Mutede unlawfully sold the stands and determine the circumstances surrounding the payments made by the complainants.
