ZESA Unveils New Board As Electricity Utility Enters New Era
ZESA (Private) Limited has announced a new Board of Directors following the restructuring of the country’s electricity sector.
The appointments mark a significant change in the organisation of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Group.
The changes follow the consolidation of ZESA Holdings, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) and the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).
The three entities have now been brought together under a single vertically integrated utility operating as ZESA (Private) Limited.

New Board Takes Office
According to ZESA, Mutapa Investment Fund, acting as the shareholder, made the appointments in terms of General Notice 1193 of 2026.
The new board took effect on 1 April 2026.
Albert Joel Nduna has been appointed chairperson, while Ntokozo Mkandla will serve as vice chairperson.
The other board members are Tawanda Ernest Denhere, Matilda Nyathi, Sugar Chagonda, Cassius Gambinga and Theresa Muchinguri.
The board also includes engineer Nomusa Jowah and Nyasha Hazel Muvirimi.
ZESA’s executive leadership will include engineer Cletus Nyachowe as Group Chief Executive Officer.
Engineer Jan Albert Obeholzer has been appointed Chief Operating Officer.
Restructuring Creates Single Electricity Utility
The restructuring brings the country’s key electricity generation, transmission and distribution functions under one organisation.
ZESA said the new structure is expected to provide a fresh framework for the utility’s governance and strategic direction.
The changes also come as the Government pursues reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s electricity sector.
The newly constituted board will therefore oversee the utility during a period of significant transformation.
Focus On Universal Electricity Access
ZESA said the new leadership has an important role to play in supporting the Government’s electricity targets.
The utility’s stated objective includes contributing to the goal of total electrification and universal access to electricity by 2030.
The target forms part of the broader Vision 2030 agenda.
ZESA said achieving these objectives would support Zimbabwe’s transformation into an empowered and prosperous upper-middle-income economy.
The company also congratulated the incoming directors and expressed its appreciation to Mutapa Investment Fund for making the appointments.
The new board is now expected to provide strategic oversight as ZESA begins operating under its consolidated structure.
