Karoi Driver Banned For Life After Police Breathalyser Test
A Karoi motorist has been jailed for 12 months and banned from driving Class 2 vehicles for life after he was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. Blessing Dzapasi was caught with an alcohol reading well above Zimbabwe’s legal limit during a traffic operation on the Harare-Chirundu Road.
Karoi Driver Caught With Alcohol Level Above Legal Limit
The 39-year-old, from Claudia in Karoi, appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court after the incident on 19 August 2026.
According to ZBC, Dzapasi was driving a Mitsubishi Canter towards Chirundu at around 6:17pm when Zimbabwe Republic Police Traffic officers stopped him near the 204-kilometre peg.
The officers reportedly suspected that he had been drinking and subjected him to a breathalyser test.
The test recorded 114 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The prescribed limit is 80mg/100ml.
“The breathalyser test recorded 114 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, well above the prescribed legal limit of 80mg/100ml.”
Dzapasi had two passengers in the vehicle when he was stopped.
Motorist Convicted Under Road Traffic Act
The motorist was convicted of contravening Section 54(2) of the Road Traffic Act [Chapter 13:11], which prohibits driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the stipulated limit.
The court subsequently sentenced him to 12 months in jail and imposed a lifetime ban on driving Class 2 vehicles.
Drunk-Driving Crackdown Continues
The case comes as traffic officers continue enforcement operations targeting motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Dzapasi’s conviction highlights the consequences motorists can face when found driving above the prescribed alcohol limit.
