Harare Rape Case Takes Bizarre Turn As Accused Gives Strange “Lesbian” Defence

Harare Man Accused Of Raping Two Women Gives Bizarre “Lesbian” Defence

A Harare rape case has taken an unusual turn after a 20-year-old man accused of raping two women told the court that the alleged encounters were part of an elaborate challenge to prove they were attracted to men. He denies both rape allegations.

Harare rape allegations heard in court

The accused appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Sandra Mupindu facing two counts of rape.

The Herald reported that the State alleges the incident occurred on 20 December 2025 after the two women visited the accused at his home.

Prosecutor Lovet Muringwa told the court that the accused allegedly took the first woman into his bedroom and locked the door before raping her.

The State further alleges that he later took the second woman into the bedroom and raped her.

In his defence, the accused reportedly said the two women had identified themselves as lesbians and were known in their community as “boyfriend and girlfriend”.

He claimed the women challenged him to prove that they were lesbians.

“They had always claimed to be lesbians and had been known to be boyfriend and girlfriend in their community.”

He reportedly told the court that the alleged encounters were intended to establish whether the women had sexual feelings for men.

Pregnancy leads to police report

The case later came to light after one of the women developed stomach pains in January 2026.

Her mother took her to Damafalls Clinic in Ruwa, where she was reportedly found to be pregnant.

The woman subsequently disclosed what had happened, according to the State’s case.

Her mother reported the matter to police on 4 February 2026 after allegedly failing to get the accused to accept responsibility for the pregnancy.

The rape allegations remain contested as the matter proceeds through the courts.
