President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially opened the 19th Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Masvingo.
The prestigious tourism showcase brings together industry players, international buyers, and tourism stakeholders. This year’s edition also highlights Masvingo’s growing importance as a tourism destination.
Mnangagwa praises Zimbabwe’s hospitality
Speaking during the official opening, Mnangagwa praised Zimbabweans for their renowned hospitality.
He described the warmth of Zimbabwean people as a defining feature of the country’s culture.
“Our nation’s greatest asset remains our people,” Mnangagwa said.
He added that Zimbabwe’s hospitality continues making the country a destination of choice.
Furthermore, he pointed to the country’s numerous international tourism accolades as evidence of its growing appeal.
The President also challenged the tourism industry to embrace technology more aggressively.
He identified artificial intelligence and digital tools as important drivers of tourism’s future.
However, Mnangagwa stressed that technology should complement human interaction rather than replace it.
President calls for stronger domestic tourism
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa urged tourism operators to invest more heavily in cultural programmes.
He also called for stronger efforts to encourage domestic tourism across Zimbabwe.
According to the President, every Zimbabwean should experience the country’s spectacular attractions.
He said rotating Sanganai Hlanganani’s hosting responsibilities can uplift provincial tourism.
The approach also gives attractions outside major centres greater exposure to international audiences.
Mnangagwa further urged international buyers to become ambassadors for Zimbabwean tourism.
He encouraged them to return home and share the country’s authentic tourism story.
The President also called for world-class tourism and hospitality infrastructure across Zimbabwe.
He said the momentum generated by Sanganai Hlanganani 2026 should drive further development.
Finally, Mnangagwa congratulated Masvingo Province for successfully hosting the prestigious tourism expo.
