8-Month-Old Baby Killed In Glen View Rottweiler Attack As Father Is Arrested
An eight-month-old baby girl was killed by her father’s Rottweiler in Glen View, Harare, in a shocking attack that also left a woman and a two-year-old boy seriously injured.
Baby Tayana Nyandoro was reportedly being held by her mother, Rosemary Madzinga, 43, at their Riverside, Glen View 7 home on Thursday, 10 September 2026, when the attack unfolded.
Glen View Rottweiler Attack Leaves Three Victims
According to H-Metro, Madzinga had invited her former housemaid, Varaidzo Gumboreshumba, 26, into the yard when the dog attacked her.
Neighbours gathered after hearing the commotion. Two-year-old Kupakwashe Gambo was among those watching when the Rottweiler attacked him.
Police said Gumboreshumba and Kupakwashe suffered serious head injuries and were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case and said the dog’s owner, John Nyandoro, 48, had been arrested for culpable homicide.
“The now deceased was bitten on the head and died on the spot,” Chakanza said.
Police said the dog had been vaccinated on 13 May 2026. SPCA inspectors who attended the scene recommended putting it down.
Recent Dog Attacks Raise Concern Across Zimbabwe
The Glen View tragedy comes less than three weeks after a 39-year-old man was mauled to death by dogs in Kadoma on 22 August 2026.
In February, two-year-old Tanaka Dube died after four dogs reportedly escaped a yard in Bulawayo’s Douglasdale suburb and attacked her.
Zimbabwe has also recorded thousands of dog-bite cases. A January 2026 disease surveillance report recorded 619 dog-bite cases in one week alone.
On 9 September 2026, animal welfare officials again urged people attacked by dogs to report incidents to police and seek medical attention, particularly because of the risk of rabies.
Fatal Attacks Continue To Put Focus On Dog Control
The incidents have renewed attention on owners’ responsibility to properly secure their animals.
Police have repeatedly urged owners to comply with local authority by-laws governing the keeping and control of dogs.
The Glen View case is now being investigated as authorities establish the circumstances surrounding the death of baby Tayana and the injuries suffered by the other victims.
