WhatsApp Users In Zimbabwe Raise Alarm Over Account Hijackings
Concerns over WhatsApp account security are growing in Zimbabwe following reports of users being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts amid fears of account hijacking.
The reports have prompted questions about how unauthorised people may be gaining access to accounts.
However, the extent of the reported incidents and the methods allegedly being used to take over accounts have not been established.

Two-Step Verification Raises Security Questions
Two-step verification is one of the security features WhatsApp users can activate to add an extra layer of protection to their accounts.
The feature requires a personal PIN when a phone number is registered with WhatsApp again, making it more difficult for someone to take control of an account using only a verification code.
Nevertheless, reports of account hijackings involving users who have enabled the feature have raised concerns about whether additional precautions may be needed.
WhatsApp Users Express Fear Over Security Of Their Accounts
The numerous reports of account hijackings have sparked anxiety among WhatsApp users, with some expressing fears that their accounts are no longer adequately protected against hackers.
There were also concerns that the attacks could be linked to compromised databases or increasingly sophisticated hacking techniques. Some users warned that the situation could worsen, particularly as cybercriminals continue to find ways to exploit digital security vulnerabilities.
