Zimbabwe’s beauty sector is gaining momentum as a potential engine for job creation, entrepreneurship and economic growth.
The industry is opening doors for women and young people to transform their talents into profitable businesses. However, stakeholders believe stronger professional standards and vocational training could unlock even greater opportunities.
These issues took centre stage at the second edition of the Zimbabwe Beauty Industry Awards. The event recognised industry professionals while highlighting the need to build a more structured and competitive sector.
Beauty awards highlight opportunities for Zimbabweans
From hairstyling and make-up to skincare and nail technology, beauty professionals are building careers through their skills. Consequently, the sector offers opportunities for individuals seeking employment or planning to establish their own businesses.
The awards also emphasised the importance of professional training, certification and recognised industry standards. These measures could help practitioners improve their services and build sustainable enterprises.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, encouraged professionals to pursue available training opportunities.
“Our ministry recognises the beauty industry as an important contributor to employment creation and economic development. We therefore encourage practitioners to take advantage of training and certification opportunities available through our vocational training centres. Industry players say that while talent remains at the heart of the beauty business, professional recognition and skills development are essential to building a competitive and sustainable sector,” he said.
His remarks highlighted the government’s recognition of beauty services as a potential contributor to employment and economic development.
Natasha Mutizira celebrates growing industry recognition
Zimbabwe Beauty Industry Awards Chief Executive Officer Natasha Chipo Mutizira also celebrated the event’s growing support.
“So we said, let us celebrate ourselves. Last year, it was a dream. This year, it is a movement. To see this room full proves that Zimbabwean beauty deserves to be celebrated,” Zimbabwe Beauty Industry Awards Chief Executive Officer, Natasha Chipo Mutizira noted.
Beyond celebrating talent, the awards encouraged practitioners to view beauty as a viable business opportunity. Greater investment in training and professional development could help businesses expand and create jobs.
As the sector continues to grow, practitioners have an opportunity to strengthen their businesses and contribute to Zimbabwe’s wider economy.
