Relebohile Mofokeng delivered another standout performance in Belgium, helping Royale Union Saint-Gilloise secure a thrilling 5-2 comeback victory over Cercle Brugge.
The South African international scored and assisted as Union SG finished strongly. His influential display earned him a 9.1 rating, the highest recorded on the pitch.
Mofokeng Produces Goal and Assist in Belgium
Mofokeng made his mark late in the contest after celebrating his 22nd birthday earlier this week.
The former Orlando Pirates attacker found the net in the 80th minute. He connected with Louis Patris’ cross to score with a header.
Furthermore, Mofokeng turned provider in the 90th minute. He set up Kevin Rodríguez, who completed the scoring for Union SG.
His contribution extended beyond the two decisive moments. Mofokeng registered 55 touches and completed 38 of his 42 passes.
That translated into an impressive 90% passing accuracy. He also completed 21 of 23 passes in the attacking phase.
Additionally, the winger created six chances, including two big chances. He recorded eight touches inside the opposition box and completed six of seven progressive passes.
These statistics highlighted his creativity and ability to threaten opponents in advanced positions. His 9.1 rating confirmed his status as the match’s standout performer.
Former Orlando Pirates Star Impresses in Debut European Season
The latest performance strengthens Mofokeng’s growing reputation following his move from Orlando Pirates to Belgium.
The Bafana Bafana star has also contributed in the UEFA Europa League. He recently provided an assist during Union SG’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Across his first 14 appearances in all competitions, Mofokeng has reportedly registered five goals and three assists.
His average FotMob rating stands at 7.27, while his shot-on-target accuracy is listed at 60%.
For South African football supporters, his early progress in Europe offers plenty of encouragement. He is gaining experience against European opposition while delivering important attacking contributions.
Moreover, consistent performances could strengthen his position at Union SG and increase his profile internationally.
If Mofokeng maintains this momentum, he could become an even more influential figure for his Belgian club and Bafana Bafana.
