MacG dragged to parliament over Minnie Dlamini comments

Controversial South African podcaster Macg has found himself in hot water—his remarks were called to parliament again after his Minnie Dlamini comments. This time, it’s over remarks he made about TV personality Minnie Dlamini following her breakup with businessman Brian Monaisa.

During a recent episode of Podcast and Chill, MacG, whose real name is Macgyver Mukwevho, made crude insinuations about Dlamini’s personal life. “Maybe her coochie smells or something” MacG said.

The comments sparked outrage across social media, with many accusing him of perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes. Critics say his platform, known for pushing boundaries, often crosses the line into misogyny.

Now, government officials are stepping in. The backlash is no longer limited to social media—it’s headed to Parliament.

Deputy Minister Steve Letsike has launched a formal process to hold MacG accountable. The podcaster’s remarks will be investigated by the Commission for Gender Equality and the SA Human Rights Commission.

Legal experts are also exploring the possibility of a crimen injuria charge. Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities will summon MacG to explain himself. Failure to appear could land him in prison for up to 12 months.

Additionally, the Minister of Communications will consider tighter regulation of digital platforms. There is growing concern about unregulated content fuelling online gender-based violence. The Deputy Minister will also engage Minnie Dlamini directly. She aims to align government response with her needs.

Laws like the Cybercrimes Act and the Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Act may soon be enforced more rigorously. MacG’s future as a media figure now hangs in the balance.
