The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) established a security perimeter around the property while specialized units from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) conducted what appeared to be a high-risk building sweep. Hotel management initially suggested an ongoing security threat when questioned by distressed guests.
Revealing the Truth Behind the Chaos
After nearly an hour of heightened anxiety, the hotel’s General Manager, Mr. Moyo, explained that the incident was an unpublicized security exercise.
“This drill was designed to evaluate our emergency response capabilities under realistic conditions,” Moyo stated. “We regret the distress caused to our guests who weren’t briefed in advance.”
