A Chinese businessman with property in Willowvale industrial area has been ordered to remove a durawall built on a railway line by the City of Harare.
This follows a statement by the NRZ about the railway line being privately owned earlier this week, after a viral picture raised concerns on social media.
The NRZ, however, shared that the City of Harare was investigating the durawall.
Chinese National Ordered to Remove durawall From Railway Line
The Harare City Council has successfully resolved a dispute involving unauthorised construction by a Chinese investor. Municipal officials issued a directive demanding the immediate removal of a security wall built across what appeared to be an active railway track. The property owner complied with the order, dismantling the controversial structure voluntarily.

The City of Harare wrote to the Chinese national ordering him to take down the wall or the City would do it. The businessman took down the wall.
City representatives have expressed appreciation for residents who brought the matter to their attention. The council encouraged citizens to continue reporting suspicious construction activities throughout the metropolitan area.
The City of Harare would want to thank the residents for raising the issue as we work together to fight lawlessness in the city. We urge residents to bring to our attention any suspected illegal developments in and around the city.
Property Background and Ownership
The Chinese national bought the property in 2022 from the original owners. Located at 44 Tilbury Road, the premises are undergoing redevelopment, including demolition of existing structures. The new owners erected the perimeter wall as a security measure during this transitional phase.

The railway was a private line constructed by the original owners to transport their goods. When ownership was transferred to a Chinese national, so did ownership of the railway.
NRZ reported that the railway line did not interfere with active railway operations.
