Michael Nees Drops Regular Warriors Stars for Burkina Faso and Niger Friendlies
Warriors coach Michael Nees has left out several senior players from the squad that will face Burkina Faso and Niger in upcoming international friendlies set for Morocco on June 6 and 10.
The squad, which was announced this week, features mostly fringe and young players, with big names like Marshall Munetsi, Andy Rinomhota, Tivonge Rushesha, and Knowledge Musona left out. Marvelous Nakamba is also missing, despite recently regaining fitness after a lengthy injury spell.
Nees appears to be using the matches to test new options and manage the workload of some regulars. Returning to the squad are goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze and German-based midfielder Jonah Fabisch, both of whom missed the last call-up.
There’s also good news for Tinotenda Kadewere and Bill Antonio, who make the cut after recovering from injuries.
One of the most notable inclusions is 19-year-old Sean Fusire from Sheffield Wednesday. The UK-born midfielder, who has Zimbabwean roots, has accepted his first national team call-up.
