Wicknell Chivayo Scam Explodes: Woman in Viral Video Says She’s a Victim, Not the Mastermind
The woman accused of using Wicknell Chivayo’s name in a scam that tricked people out of money says she’s not the mastermind — she’s a victim too.
Her explanation comes after Chivayo publicly offered a US$50,000 reward to anyone who could identify her. The woman had gone viral in a video where she thanked Chivayo for helping her financially — a clip that now appears to have been part of a wider scam.
Popular social media detective Kedha announced that he managed to track down the woman seen in the video. According to him, the woman was misled by scammers into recording the clip, believing she was about to receive help with a serious health issue in her family.
Detective Kedha said the woman believed she was appealing for genuine assistance. She had no idea the video would be used to trick others.
“We have managed to locate mhamha vari pavideo rema Scammers ari kusviita Sir Wicknell. Zvinorwadza kani, mhamha is just a victim vakaitiswa video vachifunga kuti vari kuda kutobatsirwawo padambudziko hombe rehurwere huri mumba mavo.”
Kedha, known for mixing crime investigation with social media content, vowed to continue his efforts to expose the people behind the scam. He made it clear he wasn’t chasing Chivayo’s reward — he simply wanted to prevent more people from falling victim.
“Matrix will definitely get to the bottom of this, not for the Reward offered but to save future victims,” Detective Kedha said.
Reports suggest that the scammers set up multiple fake accounts pretending to be Wicknell Chivayo across platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). These accounts were used to lure people into sending money, promising gifts like cars and cash in return.
Once the woman in the video was identified, she reportedly told investigators that she was tricked into making the clip. She thought it was part of a legitimate process to get help, not a tool to scam others.
Chivayo, who has become well-known for giving away expensive gifts and money, expressed frustration at being dragged into fraudulent schemes. He said he’s tired of scammers using his name to commit crimes and confuse the public.
The businessman has made it clear he wants to distance himself from these fake giveaways and is determined to see those responsible held accountable.
