Dr. Dhaval Gameti of Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad confirmed that they have received a total of 270 bodies.
Most of the bodies severely charred or mutilated, complicating the identification process. Hundreds of grieving relatives have submitted DNA samples to aid in identification.
Meanwhile, the lone survivor who miraculously survived the catastrophic crash is currently under medical supervision and receiving treatment for injuries.
Black Box Recovered from Rooftop Near Crash Site
On Friday, investigators located the plane’s digital flight data recorder, commonly known as the black box, on a rooftop near the impact zone. The device is expected to hold vital clues about what caused the crash.
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has begun analyzing the recorder with “full force” to retrieve data on engine performance, control settings, and cockpit communication.
“The flight data and voice recordings will help piece together what went wrong in those final moments,” said Paul Fromme, a mechanical engineer from the U.K.-based Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Government Forms High-Level Investigative Committee
In response to the national tragedy, the Indian government has announced the formation of a high-level, multi-disciplinary committee to investigate the root causes of the crash. The committee will work alongside the ongoing formal probe being led by aviation safety officials.
