Deadly Tynwald Flyover Crash Leaves 6 Dead As Police Reveal Fresh Details
Six people have died after a kombi left the road and plunged into a water-filled gully near the Tynwald Flyover in Harare. The crash, which happened late on Wednesday night, also left six other people injured. Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing as authorities work to identify and notify the victims’ families.
The fatal accident occurred on 29 July 2026 at about 10 pm along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near the Harare Drive junction. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the tragedy in a statement released on 30 July 2026.
Tynwald Kombi Crash Leaves Six Dead
Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatal accident in an official statement.
“Six people were killed while six others were injured when a kombi with 11 passengers on board veered off the road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully which contained water.”
Police said the crash happened at the 9-kilometre peg near the Tynwald Rail Road Flyover. The circumstances that caused the kombi to leave the road have not yet been disclosed.
The figures released by police indicate that at least 12 people may have been travelling in the vehicle, including the driver. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the driver was among those killed or injured.
Victims Taken To Parirenyatwa Hospital
The bodies of those who died were taken to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Commissioner Nyathi said police were still working to identify all the victims and contact their relatives.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.”
Police Continue Investigations Into Fatal Harare Crash
The Zimbabwe Republic Police said investigations into the accident are ongoing and more information will be released once it becomes available.
