President Mnangagwa dumped his presidential motorcade for a private one in order to pay a surprise visit to public central hospitals.
The visits were made so that the president could see the state of the hospitals without prior notice.
This follows after many people, including Minister Machakaire, called for him to visit the hospitals to see what Zimbabweans are going through while seeking medical help.

According to a post made on X by Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, the president opted for a private motorcade during his visit. He did not want people to be on alert about what was happening so that he could have a firsthand experience of what was going on.

Using a private motorcade, the President cut through bureaucracy and gloss to reach the real situation on the ground. It was that pretty at all.
The motorcade would even behave like other motorists on the busy roads while maintaining a low profile. The president got a chance to see and inspect the wards and even interact with the patients and medical staff.
The Current State Of Central Hospitals
Charamba shared pictures of what the President found on the ground at Parirenyatwa and Sally Mugabe Hospitals.
There were raised concerns about a lack of curtains and heating in the maternity ward at Parirenyatwa, which falls short of set standards. The absence of curtains means that when mothers are being helped, anyone can see, which is very invasive.

Wing windows were bare. It was hard to imagine how delivering mothers are helped – the process is highly invasive – under such conditions. Heating systems have all but collapsed in this highly sensitive wing.
Some mothers with sick children at Sally Mugabe were sleeping on benches while seeking help for their kids. While the President praised people for staying vigilant despite the conditions, he spoke with the personnel and asked what should be done to improve the standards.
