Jah Prayzah Breaks Silence On Fans Killed In Canada Car Crash Travelling To His Concert

Jah Prayzah speaks on fans who died on their way to attend his concert in Canada

Two Zimbabwean fans who died in a tragic crash while travelling to a Jah Prayzah concert in Canada have been mourned by the artist, who says he is “deeply pained” by the news.

Posting on Facebook on 13 July 2025, Jah Prayzah shared his heartfelt condolences following the deaths of Anotida Maziriri and Edmore Mafuwe. The two were involved in a fatal car accident on 11 July while en route to his performance in Edmonton as part of his Ndini Mukudzeyi world tour.

“Ndarwadziwa zvikuru neshoko randafumira kugamuchira,” he wrote.
“I have learnt of the passing of two young fans of mine, Anotida Maziriri and Edmore Mafuwe, who lost their lives in a tragic car accident while on their way to one of our shows in Canada.”

“They had travelled far, simply to share a few hours of music and connection with us. To think they never made it to that moment hurts in a way I cannot explain.”

“Ndirikurwadziwa nekuchema pamwechete nemhuri dzavo (I am pained and mourning together with their families). A journey that was planned to create only good memories became a journey that only left us with grief.”

“To their families: may you be comforted. Ndinonamatira nyaradzo inobva kuna Mwari panguva ino yakaoma (I pray for God’s comfort during this difficult time). When we return to Zimbabwe, I will also personally pass by and extend my condolences.”

“Mweya yavo ngaizorore murugare (May their souls rest in peace).”

“We want to bring him home to rest”

The grieving families of the two fans have launched GoFundMe campaigns to repatriate their bodies to Zimbabwe and to cover funeral expenses.

For Edmore Mafuwe, a fundraiser created by Tinashe Mazibiye reads:

“We are deeply saddened to share that Eddmore Mafuwe tragically passed away in a car accident on July 11. We are raising funds to return his body to Zimbabwe so his family can lay him to rest with dignity. Any contribution, big or small, will help us bring Eddmore home.”

By 13 July, the fundraiser had raised $1,287 CAD (around R17,450) out of a $15,000 CAD goal (about R203,500).

A separate campaign for Anotida Maziriri was organised by Aisher Magomo, who wrote:

“We are heartbroken to share that our beloved daughter, sister, and friend, Anotida Kimberly Maziriri, tragically passed away in a car accident on the night of July 11th 2025. Anotida was a bright light in our lives—kind, loving, and deeply cherished.”

“This sudden loss has left our family devastated. We’re raising funds to help cover funeral costs and ease the financial burden during this difficult time.”

Diaspora rallies behind the families

Social media users in the diaspora have responded with an outpouring of grief and solidarity, widely sharing the two fundraisers and encouraging contributions.

Crime Watch Zimbabwe also confirmed the incident on X, posting:

“They both died on the spot. Tragedy in Canada: Jah Prayzah fans die in car crash on their way to Ndini Mukudzeyi concert.”

One supporter, commenting on the fundraiser, said:

“They died doing what they loved. Going to see Jah Prayzah perform wasn’t just entertainment—it was a moment of connection, of pride, of home.”

Jah Prayzah continues with world tour

Jah Prayzah’s Ndini Mukudzeyi world tour kicked off in Harare on 3 May 2025. He performed in Wolverhampton on 25 May and continued to Canada with scheduled shows in Edmonton (11 July) and Toronto (12 July).

Although the U.S. leg of the tour was postponed due to visa delays, more performances are expected in Japan, Australia, and South Africa.

The deaths of Anotida and Edmore have shaken Zimbabwean communities in Canada and abroad. The families continue to appeal for donations and prayers as they navigate the tragedy.
