A fake prophet has been arrested and told to repay a family he scammed out of money th repay a ‘spiritual debt’ owed to him by a man he never met.
Tinashe Aiumando (25), operating from Nketa 6, manipulated a vulnerable woman by falsely claiming her deceased father owed him a substantial spiritual debt.
The Deceptive Spiritual Journey
The incident unfolded in June 2025 when the victim, Pride Gamure (27), sought spiritual guidance at Aiumando’s Dzivarasekwa shrine. The self-styled prophet convinced her she needed an extensive cleansing ritual across multiple locations, beginning what would become an expensive hoax.
During their travels to Mhondoro with an accomplice named Leonard, the conspirators staged a dramatic vehicle breakdown and subsequent “divine revelation.” In a carefully choreographed performance, Leonard claimed to receive a message from the Holy Spirit about an imaginary $6,000 debt allegedly owed by Gamure’s late father.
Financial Exploitation Through Fear
The fraudsters employed psychological manipulation, warning of impending family disasters unless the non-existent debt was settled immediately. Under duress, Gamure arranged for $2,800 to be delivered to the scammers before realizing the deception.
Justice Served in Western Communal Court
Western Communal Court Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga delivered a decisive verdict, sentencing Aiumando to 440 hours of community service at Nkulumane High School. The court also mandated full restitution of $1,155 to the victim through court-monitored payments.
Authorities recovered $1,645 of the stolen funds during their investigation. In a courtroom admission, Aiumando confessed the entire spiritual prophecy had been an elaborate financial scheme from the beginning.
