Armed Robbers Stab Workers and Steal Cash in Bulawayo Nightclub Raid

Armed robbers stormed a nightclub in New Lobengula, Bulawayo, in the early hours of Monday, stabbing two staff members and assaulting a cashier before escaping with money and cellphones. The gang struck around 3AM on 29 September, leaving chaos and fear in their wake.

How the Robbery Unfolded

According to police, the attackers were masked and armed with a pistol, knife, and electric shocker. They first ambushed a 45-year-old manager who had opened the back door after a knock. She was stabbed on the back of the head when she screamed for help.
A male colleague who rushed to assist was also attacked, sustaining a knife wound above the right eye.

Cashier Targeted and Shot Fired

The robbers then turned on the cashier, using the electric shocker to overpower her before demanding money. She handed over a plastic bag containing US$550 and her two cellphones. Unsatisfied, the gang fired a shot into the nightclub’s glass door to intimidate those inside before fleeing through the back entrance.

Staff Hospitalised, Police Investigate

Both injured employees were rushed to hospital for treatment. Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu confirmed the incident, urging businesses to strengthen their security.

“We urge the business community to increase security on their premises to avoid such incidents. We also appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons to report to the nearest police station,” she said.

Community in Shock

The suspects remain on the run as police continue investigations. The brazen nature of the attack has rattled nightclub patrons and residents, with many questioning the safety of nightlife in New Lobengula after the violent strike.
