A second suspect has been arrested and brought before the courts in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura.
The arrest of Given Mandizadza, aged 34, follows the earlier detention of another suspect, Phillip Mutasa, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the Ruwa community. The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed that this latest development is a significant breakthrough in the tragic incident which occurred at the Mutangadura Hideout on Dunstan Road this past August.
National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, provided detailed commentary on the operation.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirm the arrest of another suspect, Given Mandizadza, in connection with the same case,” he stated. “On October 13, detectives from CID Homicide received information on the whereabouts of the second suspect. Acting on the tip, the detectives tracked the suspect to the intersection of Robert Mugabe Road and Julius Nyerere Way, Harare, where the suspect was subsequently arrested.”

The arrest was far from a routine operation, with police uncovering a veritable arsenal in the suspect’s possession. The recovery of this dangerous cache of weapons and equipment has raised the stakes in the investigation considerably. Commissioner Nyathi detailed the alarming findings, which were seized from a white Isuzu vehicle used by the suspect.

“During the arrest, police recovered two pistols, one with an empty magazine and another loaded with seven live rounds, three 32 long live cartridges, and two fuses,” Nyathi revealed.
He further confirmed that officers also seized “two explosives, a baby grinder, and a black monkey hat,” a term often used locally for a balaclava.
