Madzibaba David Arrested After Wicknell Chivayo Rituals Audio Goes Viral

Days after Chivayo’s death, the prophet at the centre of a viral audio is in trouble

A self-styled prophet linked to a viral audio involving the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo has reportedly been arrested in Zimbabwe, days after the recording circulated widely online.

ZimLive reported on 5 October 2026 that David Gozho, popularly known as Madzibaba David, was arrested in Goromonzi on Sunday. The publication said he was accused of armed robbery after an EcoCash agent allegedly lost US$12,000 (about R200,700).

ZimLive reported that Gozho was expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera on Monday.

Chivayo audio puts prophet in spotlight

The arrest comes after an audio recording allegedly sent by Chivayo to Gozho became a major talking point following the businessman’s death.

In the recording, Chivayo reportedly thanked the Johane Masowe eChishanu preacher for charms which he credited with helping him gain favour with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chivayo was also heard discussing a final ritual at Lake Kariba involving a clay pot containing ritual objects. He reportedly told Gozho that he would reward him with a vehicle once his money started coming in.

The recording has since drawn significant attention because of its claims about the businessman’s relationship with the prophet.

Wicknell Chivayo died days before arrest

Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, were among five people killed when a helicopter crashed in the Marondera area on 30 September 2026. Authorities confirmed there were no survivors.

ZimLive reported that the authenticity of the audio had been established. The publication also linked the recording to Chivayo’s previous public relationship with Gozho.

The reported arrest therefore adds another development to a story that has attracted widespread attention since Chivayo’s death.
