The Meteorological Services Department has issued a firm reassurance to the nation, stating there is no cyclone activity in Zimbabwe. This announcement comes after a viral social media post caused widespread alarm by falsely warning of an approaching tropical cyclone. The department is now urging the public to disregard the hoax and rely solely on its official platforms for accurate weather updates.
Meteorological Department Sets The Record Straight
In a decisive move to quell the rising public anxiety, the Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe (MSD) issued a clear statement on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. The statement directly confronted and dismissed the swirling rumours. The department’s message was simple and left no room for doubt.
The MSD wrote:
“Good afternoon. Please be advised that THERE IS NO CYCLONE ACTIVITY currently affecting the country. The public is encouraged to follow regular updates on all official Meteorological Services Department (MSD) platforms.”
This direct communication aimed to cut through the noise of the false alert, which had specifically named regions like Masvingo, Manicaland, and Matabeleland South as being in the cyclone’s path.
The department’s urgent plea is for citizens to rely solely on its verified channels for accurate weather information, especially during the rainy season when speculation can run high.
Authorities often warn that fake alerts can cause more societal disruption than the fictional events they predict, prompting emergency services to waste valuable resources on false alarms.
A representative from the MSD reiterated the department’s position, stating:
“We have noted with great concern the circulation of false information regarding a so-called ‘Cyclone Never’. We wish to state categorically that this is a hoax. There is no such cyclone forming or affecting Zimbabwe. Our systems are constantly monitoring weather patterns, and the public will be the first to know through our official channels if there is any genuine threat.”
The department continues to monitor the country’s weather systems and provides daily updates. They have confirmed that while the current period does involve seasonal rains, there is no tropical system influencing the country’s weather that would justify the extreme damage predicted in the viral post.
Citizens are reminded that the only way to receive confirmed, timely weather warnings is by following the MSD directly.
