Veteran playwright Aaron Chiundura-Moyo has attracted a sinister shadow as con-artists are targeting him after he received the car and cash gift. The 71-year-old literary giant, who was recently gifted a brand new Toyota Fortuner GD6 and a staggering US$50,000 by businessman Wicknell Chivayo, now finds himself the target of opportunistic con artists. These individuals are brazenly demanding a portion of the windfall, falsely claiming they were the ones who persuaded Chivayo to make the donation.
The celebrated novelist and filmmaker expressed his profound disappointment, revealing that the gift intended to honour his lifetime of work has instead made him a mark for scammers. He stated,
“To be perfectly candid, this honour has made me a target for people who are insisting that they were the ones who convinced Chivayo to bestow this gift upon me. Some are now demanding cash from me, alleging they did their best to ensure I received this honour.”
Chiundura-Moyo, a stalwart of the arts for five decades, added with a note of weary wisdom,
“The amusing part of it all is that I have been in this industry for the past 50 years, and it is only God who can reward people. I was very certain that this would happen.”

Amidst the unpleasantness, the veteran storyteller has demonstrated remarkable prudence in managing his unexpected fortune. He has made deliberate and sensible decisions to secure his future, ensuring the money serves his craft and his security. When asked about his plans, he provided a detailed breakdown. He revealed,
“I have invested US$40,000 in the money market, and I will only know how much I have earned after 12 months. The remaining funds will be directed towards purchasing studio equipment that I need for my work.”
He explained the rationale behind this move, noting,
“It was a deliberate decision as I did not want to become a target for thieves or robbers. The money and the car I received are worth more than my pension, and as an elderly man, no one will employ me.”

Beyond the financial planning, Chiundura-Moyo has taken the moment to celebrate what truly matters: family. He spoke fondly of his brother, music legend Jonah Moyo of Deverangwena, highlighting their strong bond.
“I have always maintained good relations with my siblings, but many people did not know that Jonah Moyo is my brother. He has been part of my creative journey, and today, I am glad he is here for me. I personally invited him to come and celebrate this special occasion with me,” he shared.
