City Of Harare Introduces Digital Self-Service Parking Zones: What You Need To Know

Harare Launches New Digital Self-Service Parking System

The City of Harare has announced that selected streets in the capital will switch to self-service parking starting on 1 December 2025, marking a major shift towards automated and digital parking management. The new system, unveiled in an official public notice, explains that motorists will now pay for parking without the assistance of marshals.

Harare Rolls Out Automated Parking

According to the City Parking management, the designated zones include Third Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Robert Mugabe Road, and Park Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue.

In the notice, officials stated:

“These specific sections will be fully self-service. No parking marshals will be deployed. Motorists are required to use digital payment platforms to pay for parking.”

City Parking said the move is part of a wider modernisation project aimed at using Artificial Intelligence and automation to streamline operations.

A spokesperson added in the statement:

“This is in line with our digital transformation strategy. We aim to improve operational efficiency and enhance the parking experience using modern technologies.”

How Motorists Will Pay

The notice outlines several ways drivers can settle their parking fees in the new zones.

Officials said:

“Motorists may scan the QR code displayed on street signage, dial *192#, use the WhatsApp chatbot on 0719515601, or download the Park Assist mobile application.”

No changes to parking fees were mentioned in the statement.

City Parking urged drivers to familiarise themselves with the digital platforms ahead of the 1 December launch to avoid inconveniences.

AI To Play Bigger Role In City Parking

City Parking emphasised that the self-service zones are a pilot for a broader, tech-driven initiative.

In the words of management:

“These changes form part of a long-term programme to integrate Artificial Intelligence into parking management systems.”

The organisation said it appreciates the public’s cooperation as the digital transformation continues.
