Wicknell Chivayo has threatened UK-based critic Adam Rhys Lurie with court action after confirming he paid US$5 million (approx. R92 million) for his children, in a statement posted on 1 May 2026.
The businessman’s remarks come weeks after Lurie publicly apologised for earlier allegations, but Chivayo signalled that the matter may now move into the courts. This comes after Rhys Lurie continued making more allegations on social media.
“I Have Paid In Full” — Chivayo Confirms Settlement
Introducing his statement on X, Chivayo confirmed that he had complied with a High Court consent order linked to his children.
“I have since honoured and paid the 5 million USD she requested for the kids IN FULL as per the consent High Court order.”
The order, granted on 2 April 2026, resolved a custody dispute between Chivayo and his former partner, Sonja Louise Madzikanda. It included structured access arrangements and a financial settlement for the children.
Chivayo added that he would continue to defend himself against any further legal challenges.
“She can continue to file as many baseless and nonsensical lawsuits as she pleases anywhere in the world, I will hire highly competent lawyers and gladly defend them.”
The broader dispute over assets remains before the courts.
Legal Action Looms Against UK Critic
Chivayo reserved his strongest remarks for Adam Rhys Lurie, warning that criminal and civil proceedings were being considered.
“My Lawyers are reporting these cases to the police on my behalf and we are also considering bringing a private prosecution.”
He cited UK law in his warning:
“A person commits an offence if they send or publish a communication… which is indecent or grossly offensive… or contains information which is false.”
Chivayo further indicated that a defamation claim could follow under UK legislation.
“Then obviously a civil claim against you for Defamation under the Defamation Act 2013 is inevitable.”
He concluded with a direct warning:
“See you in Court.”
Apology Fails To End Dispute
The latest developments come after Lurie issued a public apology on 11 April 2026, admitting that his earlier claims about Chivayo were not supported by evidence.
In his statement, Lurie said:
“I reached some conclusions that were simply wrong.”
He clarified that his allegations of gold smuggling and suspicious aircraft activity were speculative.
“I have zero evidence… I don’t have any physical proof of gold smuggling, money laundering, or illicit cash being moved.”
He added:
“My posts were speculative… I truly regret any trouble or stress this has caused him. Apologies.”
Despite the apology, Chivayo’s latest remarks suggest the dispute is far from resolved.
He also dismissed claims circulating online about his finances.
“This inaccurate news about assets having been frozen is absurd.”
Referencing his financial position, he added:
“Just yesterday afternoon I spent 1,1 million rand buying… handbags and shoes.”
The situation continues to unfold, with legal action now a possibility as tensions between the two escalate.
