Tragedy As Church Lorry Rams Stationary Truck, Two Dead

Two people perished after a lorry carrying church congregants rammed into a stationary truck along the Chivhu–Nyazura Road on the evening of May 2, 2026, in an incident confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Fatal Crash At Mapisa Curve

The crash occurred at around 18:35 hours at the 72-kilometre peg near Mapisa Curve, close to Muzadzi Business Centre in Buhera. Authorities said the vehicle involved was transporting 15 church members at the time of the accident.

ZRP national spokesperson, Paul Nyathi, confirmed the details of the fatal collision.

He stated:

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on May 2, 2026, at around 1835 hours at the 72 kilometre peg along Chivhu-Nyazura road at Mapisa curve near Muzadzi Business Centre, Buhera.”

The incident involved a Mitsubishi Canter truck which collided with the rear of a stationary Iveco lowbed haulage truck.

Two Dead, Two Injured

Police confirmed that two people died at the scene, while two others sustained injuries in the crash. The injured were not named, and their condition was not immediately disclosed.

Commissioner Nyathi explained the circumstances surrounding the collision:

“Two people were killed while two others were injured when a Mitsubishi Canter truck carrying 15 church congregants rammed onto the back of a stationary Iveco lowbed haulage truck which had developed a mechanical fault.”

The haulage truck had reportedly broken down and was stationary at the time of the impact.

Police Confirm Circumstances

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or further details about the victims. Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
