Willard Katsande Lands New Coaching Job Days After Rangers Exit

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande has wasted no time in finding a new role after being unveiled as head coach of Eastern Region side Grand Legacy FC, just days after leaving Rangers FC.

Katsande was introduced by the club’s vice chairman ahead of their Munhumutapa Challenge Cup fixture against Bikita Minerals FC in Bikita on Saturday.

Although present for the occasion, he did not take charge from the touchline, with the club indicating he will officially begin his duties immediately after the match.

“New Chapter” for the Former Warriors Captain

Katsande described the move as a fresh start as he continues to build his coaching career following his transition from playing.

“New chapter, thank you Grand Legacy Football Club for the trust. Football is about gaining experience. Together we can reach there,” he said.

The appointment marks a rapid turnaround for the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, who only recently parted ways with Rangers.

Short-Lived Spell at Rangers

Katsande’s time at Rangers lasted just 54 days despite signing a one-year deal with the Chinhoyi-based club.

During his brief tenure, he oversaw seven matches, recording one win, four draws and two defeats, leaving the team struggling near the bottom of the table.

However, his departure was not driven solely by results on the pitch.

Fallout With Club Management

In his resignation letter, Katsande cited serious concerns about working conditions and lack of support from the club’s leadership.

He revealed that he had not received any salary or agreed sign-on fees since taking up the role, a situation he said breached his contract.

“Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my resignation from my position as Head Coach of Rangers FC, effective immediately,” he wrote.

“Despite my commitment to the role and repeated efforts to address concerns, I have decided to resign due to the treatment and working conditions I have experienced.”

Concerns Over Professional Standards

Katsande also raised issues about the living conditions provided by the club, describing them as unsuitable and unresolved despite being reported.

These issues, amongst others, have made it untenable for me to perform my duties to the standard the players and the supporters deserve,” he said.

He added that he expects all outstanding payments to be honoured in line with his contract, while wishing the players and technical team well for the remainder of the season.

Fresh Start With Grand Legacy

His move to Grand Legacy now offers a chance to reset and focus on development, with the CAF C licence holder eager to gain experience and grow in the coaching ranks.

The new role presents an opportunity for Katsande to quickly move past the turbulence at Rangers and establish himself in a more stable environment.
