Dynamos FC Lose CAF Confederation Cup Spot Amid FIFA Dispute With Former Coach
Dynamos FC will not feature in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after being omitted from the tournament’s preliminary round draw despite earning qualification by lifting the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup.
The Harare giants had secured their place in Africa’s second-tier club competition through their cup triumph, but their absence from the list of participating teams means they will once again miss out on continental football.

Salary Dispute Reportedly Behind Omission
While neither CAF nor Dynamos had immediately issued a detailed explanation, reports indicate the club’s exclusion is linked to an unresolved financial dispute involving former head coach Saul Chaminuka.
Chaminuka is understood to have reported the club to FIFA over unpaid salary arrears believed to total nearly US$13,000. Reports suggest Dynamos attempted to make a partial payment before the registration deadline, but FIFA reportedly required the full amount to be settled before lifting the sanction.
The unresolved matter is said to have prevented the club from obtaining the clearance required to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Second Consecutive Continental Setback
This marks the second successive year that Dynamos have failed to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup despite qualifying on the field.
Last season, the Glamour Boys withdrew from the competition after citing financial constraints and requested to be excused from participating.
Their latest exclusion represents another major setback for one of Zimbabwe’s most successful clubs, denying them valuable continental exposure and the opportunity to compete against some of Africa’s leading teams.
Financial Opportunity Lost
Missing out on the competition also carries financial consequences.
By failing to take part in the Confederation Cup, Dynamos are set to miss the financial benefits associated with continental participation, including a potential preliminary round participation package estimated at around US$100,000.
CAF has already confirmed the teams that will take part in the preliminary round draw, with Dynamos notably absent from the final list despite qualifying through their domestic cup success. Their exclusion leaves Zimbabwe with fewer representatives in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
