Justice Chiweshe Faces JSC Misconduct Hearing As Kereke’s Explosive Claims Over His 2 Wives Unfold
Justice George Mutandwa Chiweshe faces a misconduct hearing on September 9, 2026, after Munyaradzi Kereke made explosive allegations involving money, business dealings and the judge’s alleged interactions with his two wives while Kereke was serving a 10-year prison sentence.
ZimLive reports that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) launched disciplinary proceedings after Kereke filed a complaint in June 2026. Chiweshe has since approached the High Court seeking to stop the hearing.
Kereke’s Claims About Money And His 2 Wives
Kereke’s complaint contains allegations involving a Mercedes-Benz, cash payments and a proposed gold-mining arrangement.
He alleges that US$25,000 (approximately R412,500) was linked to the sale of a Mercedes-Benz, followed by further cash payments.
The complaint also makes allegations concerning Kereke’s wives, Patience Taruvinga Muswapadare and Isabel Chirapura.
Kereke alleges that Chiweshe repeatedly summoned Muswapadare to his offices and later had contact with Chirapura.
The complaint claims Chirapura was allegedly offered whisky and other drinks during meetings.
“His ‘intimate bond’ with Chirapura ‘strained’ that relationship too,” Kereke alleged.
Chiweshe Challenges The JSC Hearing
Chiweshe is challenging the disciplinary process, arguing that the committee expanded its investigation beyond the mandate originally issued by Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza.
The initial inquiry covered four matters, including alleged financial dealings, a vehicle transaction, company documents and gold-mining discussions.
The committee later added allegations involving Kereke’s passport and his wives.
Chiweshe argues these were new allegations and says he was given insufficient time to respond to a 166-page record.
His lawyers requested that the September 9 hearing be postponed. The JSC said the hearing would initially deal with preliminary and procedural matters.
The allegations have not been tested in court. Chiweshe denies bribery, corruption, extortion and conspiracy.
Kereke’s Prison Sentence And Supreme Court Appeal
Kereke completed his 10-year sentence on January 8, 2026, after the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal on May 31, 2024.
His complaint also named Justices Samuel Kudya and Tendai Uchena, who sat with Chiweshe on his appeal.
However, only Chiweshe was referred for disciplinary investigation by the Chief Justice.
The September 9 hearing is expected to address the next procedural steps, while Chiweshe’s High Court challenge remains pending.
