Shumaira Mheuka’s journey has taken him from Zimbabwean roots to Chelsea and England’s youth teams.
The 18-year-old striker was born in Birmingham to Zimbabwean parents. His father, Malcolm Mheuka, played professional football in Zimbabwe.
Despite his family background, Mheuka has represented England throughout the youth age groups. He has also risen through Chelsea’s highly regarded academy system.
From Zimbabwean Roots To Chelsea
Mheuka joined Chelsea after developing at Brighton & Hove Albion. Since then, he has steadily climbed through the club’s youth ranks.
He made his senior Chelsea debut against Astana in the UEFA Conference League in December 2024. He then made his Premier League debut against Southampton in February 2025.
However, his biggest breakthrough came during the 2025/26 campaign. Mheuka scored 18 goals in 19 Premier League 2 appearances.
His performances helped Chelsea’s Under-21s win the league title. He was also named Premier League 2 Player of the Season.
Now, Mheuka has taken another important step in his development. Chelsea sent him to Celtic on a season-long loan in September 2026.
The Scottish club will give the young forward valuable senior football experience.
Could Mheuka Wear The Zimbabwe Shirt?
Mheuka’s international future remains a major talking point among Zimbabwean football supporters.
He has already gained significant experience with England’s junior teams. However, his Zimbabwean heritage keeps another international pathway open.
Zimbabwean reports have previously highlighted his eligibility for the Warriors. His father’s football background also gives the story a strong Zimbabwean connection.
Mheuka’s reported interest in representing Zimbabwe would add another exciting chapter to his career.
For now, his focus remains on developing at Celtic and continuing his rapid rise.
At only 18, the Chelsea forward still has plenty of football ahead of him.
