Tawanda Maswanhise Wins Second Scottish Premiership Player Of The Month Award In Three Months
He took the Scottish Premiership by storm in November. He has done it again in January. Tawanda Maswanhise, the 23-year-old Zimbabwean international lighting up Motherwell’s title charge, has been named the William Hill Premiership Player of the Month for January 2026. It is his second such award in just three months.
The announcement, made on February 12, 2026 by Sky Sports Scotland, confirms what the Fir Park faithful already knew. This boy is special. And he belongs to Zimbabwe.
‘No Less Than He Deserves’ – Motherwell Salute Their Main Man
Motherwell Football Club celebrated their talisman with characteristic pride. Taking to social media on the afternoon of February 12, 2026, the club declared:
“No less than he deserves. For the second time in three months, Tawanda Maswanhise has won the William Hill Premiership player of the month award.”
The post featured a carousel of images from a January campaign in which Maswanhise torched defences, dragged his team closer to an unthinkable title tilt, and left award voters with no credible alternatives.
His first gong arrived in December 2025 for his exploits in November. That month, he netted three times in four league appearances, including a stunning double in the 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock and a composed penalty in the 2-0 win against Hibernian. He rose to the top of the scoring charts, joint on eight goals with Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland.
Speaking on December 9, 2025 after receiving that award, Maswanhise said:
“I’m absolutely buzzing to pick up this award. It’s my name on the trophy, but this is a team game, and the way the full squad has contributed to our recent success has been impressive. We’re all together in this dressing room and I’m delighted with the way things have been going this season. We’re hoping we can continue that form well into December and the new year.”
He kept that promise.
Title Race Heats Up As Maswanhise Fires Motherwell Forward
Maswanhise is not merely collecting individual honours. He is dragging Motherwell into uncharted territory.
With 13 goals and two assists from 22 league outings, he has contributed directly to 15 of Motherwell’s 38 goals this season. Teammates Ewan Just and Ewan Watt have each found the net four times. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos has six. The Zimbabwean, however, remains the undisputed spearhead.
Born in England, Maswanhise qualified for Zimbabwe through his parents and committed his international future to the Warriors. That decision has never been in question. His focus remains on Fir Park and the history this Motherwell side is threatening to write.
Two player of the month awards in three months. Thirteen goals before February. The entire Scottish Premiership is looking up at his name.
Tawanda Maswanhise. Zimbabwean. Motherwell hero. And now, officially, the man to beat.
