I Blame Myself: Mai Nyathi Speaks On Husband’s Cheating, Says Her Mood Swings Caused Him To Stray

Joyce Manyara, known to millions as Mai Nyathi of the famous “Nyathi Family” social media couple, has stunned followers by accepting full blame for her husband Gilbert Nyamanhindi’s infidelity. In a tearful joint interview, she claimed her mood swings and suspicions drove him into the arms of other women. This raw confession comes just weeks after the couple launched a lawsuit against fellow content creator Louisa over similar cheating allegations.

Speaking on the Tete Tilder Show about diaspora marriage challenges, Joyce Manyara gave a heart-wrenching account of her self-blame. She stated that her behaviour created an untenable environment at home.

“Other things were caused by myself, I would give him mood swings because I would think that there is something wrong which he was doing. As time went on, I’m sure it was me who made him to go find someone outside this marriage and I always insult myself saying I was the cause of all this. I blame myself,” said Joyce Manyara as tears flowed down her cheeks.

Gilbert Nyamanhindi Confesses To Two Affairs

Her husband, Gilbert Nyamanhindi, the other half of the lucrative “Nyathi Family” brand, did not dispute the claims. He confessed to being unfaithful, citing the temptations that accompanied their online fame. He admitted to relationships with two other women during their marriage.

“Truly speaking, I caused this by having two other relationships outside our marriage. The reason is because the life we live on social media of sharing our contact details attract a lot of different types of women who send their explicit pictures and as men we get tempted,” he confessed.

Nyamanhindi further explained that marital conflict directly impacted their content creation business, which he once claimed earned them US$25,000 (approx. R475,000) a month as of February 2025.

“When she would be moody that was the time I would get out of the house. Even when we would record (skits), it will be a force matter,” revealed Gilbert Nyamanhindi.

Legal Battle And Public Backlash

This interview follows a major legal development for the couple. Earlier this month, the “Nyathi Family” sued content creator Louisa through their lawyers, Mahuntsi Attorneys Incorporated. The lawsuit demands a retraction for claims Louisa made on a podcast, including that Gilbert Nyamanhindi spent R15,000 (approx. US$800) at a lodge with another woman and that Joyce Manyara contracted a sexually transmitted infection from him.

The public reaction to the interview has been fierce. Comments show many urging Joyce Manyara not to shoulder the blame. Commenter Sinikiwe Bhebhe Chitemerere wrote,

“Postpartum depression is real it might also contributed to this.”

Others were more critical of Gilbert Nyamanhindi. Commenter Sharai Munemo stated,

“Mai Nyathi don’t blame yourself kana wahurirwa ingoziva chete kuti rume iri zihure harigutsikane newe badzi hure ihure (when you have been cheated on just know that this man is a philanderer, he will never be satisfied with you alone, a cheat is a cheat).”

The “Nyathi Family” couple’s relationship has been under intense scrutiny since their lavish wedding in December 2024.
