The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has recorded 61 days with minimal power interruptions. Notably, the utility achieved 41 consecutive days without any load shedding.
Outgoing General Manager for Stakeholder Relations, Communication and Welfare at ZESA Holdings, George Manyaya, shared this milestone in a farewell message. He addressed staff and stakeholders as he concluded his four-year tenure in Harare on Friday, 30 January. Said Manyaya:
“Let this be known in history that as I leave today, ZESA marks 41 days of continuous non-load shedding, yes, none and 61 days of only one hour load shedding at peak.”
ZESA Records Extended Period Without Load Shedding
ZESA’s power generation arm, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), has recently produced just under 1,200 megawatts. However, this output falls short of the national peak demand of approximately 2,000 megawatts.
Despite this gap, ZESA maintained a stable power supply for weeks. Although Manyaya did not reveal the exact strategy, electricity imports likely supported the achievement. These imports from neighbouring countries may have helped close the supply deficit.
Leadership Transition at ZESA
Meanwhile, Manyaya leaves ZESA to take up a new leadership role. He has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA).
He will officially assume this position on 1 February 2026.
