Outspoken War Veteran Blessed Geza Dies in South Africa

Former Zanu PF central committee member and outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza has died in South Africa.

He was battling cancer.

From Party Insider to Fierce Critic

Once a senior figure within the ruling party, Geza made headlines last year after launching scathing attacks against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF leadership.

He publicly demanded the president’s immediate resignation, accusing him of corruption, economic mismanagement and betraying the ideals of the liberation struggle.

His remarks marked a dramatic break from the ruling party and quickly placed him at the centre of national controversy.

Calls for National Shutdown Sparked Security Concerns

Geza’s outspoken stance escalated when he called for a national shutdown, a move that authorities said risked inciting public unrest.

He was subsequently accused of undermining the president’s authority and promoting acts of public violence, allegations that intensified the state’s response to his activism.

Expulsion and International Search

In April 2025, Zanu PF expelled Geza from its ranks, framing the move as a disciplinary measure following his public attacks on party leadership.

Geza went into hiding, prompting a nationwide manhunt.

As investigations continued, the Zimbabwe Republic Police sought international  assistance to locate him. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Interpol and regional law enforcement agencies had been formally engaged.

The police are still looking for Blessed Geza in relation to ongoing criminal investigations. It is correct that the Zimbabwe Republic Police has engaged Interpol and relevant regional police services as investigations into the case continue,” Nyathi told The Independent at the time.
