Holly Clare Le Roux, wife of Springbok star Willie Le Roux, has shared her infertility struggles. She spoke publicly after undergoing an experimental operation this week.
The professional nutritionist married the rugby star two years ago. However, the couple have been together since 2019.
In an emotional Instagram post, Holly revealed her battle with infertility. She said she suffered from “silent endometriosis” and underwent an “exploratory” operation. Although she called it a “complete shot in the dark”, she now feels “happy and hopeful.”
She described her recovery as long and painful. Nevertheless, she wants to encourage women facing similar challenges.
“You don’t get given any promises in infertility, but the days you feel hopeful, you grab them. Children are the biggest blessing, and I am hopeful we will have our own one day.”
She added: “One day I’ll share the full story as so many women are looking for a like-minded community walking a similar path. But for now, I’m healing, happy, and healthy”.
Holly also shared a heartfelt message from herself and Willie.
She posted: “To all the people navigating this journey: the single ladies looking at donor sperm, the teenager thinking about going on the contraceptive pill, the 30 year old debating freezing her eggs, the woman struggling through her 3rd miscarriage not understanding why, and the hard working couples saving up for their first IVF cycle, or the couple that has been trying for months on end with no answers.”
Support From Willie Le Roux and Time Together
Holly thanked Bulls coach Johan Ackermann for granting Willie special leave to support her. As a result, Willie stayed by her side during recovery.
Recently, the couple spent quality time together. They travelled to the Seychelles and enjoyed cocktails and water sports.
Willie remains a senior Springbok player with 101 Test caps.
