Last-Minute Lifeline: Minister Extends ZIMSEC Exam Registration Deadline To 22 May 2026

Minister Of Education Extends Deadline For ZIMSEC Exam Registration By Almost 2 Months To 22 May 2026

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, has extended the deadline for Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) November 2026 examination registration by almost two months, moving it from 27 March 2026 to 22 May 2026, following requests from parents and guardians.

The announcement was made in Parliament on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, after lawmakers raised concerns about parents struggling to meet the original deadline.

According to the Parliament of Zimbabwe, the extension is intended to give parents and guardians more time to pay examination registration fees while ensuring preparations for the November 2026 examinations remain on track.

Parents Requested More Time

Responding to a question raised in Parliament, Minister Torerayi Moyo confirmed that the government had received multiple appeals requesting an extension of the deadline.

Introducing his response, Minister Moyo said:

“I wish to thank Honourable M. Nkomo for the question. In fact, it is a request. We have received requests of that nature to the effect that parents and guardians are requesting that the deadline for the Zimbabwe school examinations for November 2026 be extended.”

He explained that consultations were conducted before the final decision was made.

Minister Moyo added:

“Honourable Speaker, after making some consultations, I’m pleased to announce that the November 2026 public examinations deadline for registration will be extended from 27 March 2026 to 22 May 2026.”

The new deadline effectively gives parents and guardians nearly two additional months to complete payments for the November 2026 ZIMSEC examinations.

Schools Urged To Deposit Collected Fees

While announcing the extension, the Minister also instructed schools and examination centres that had already collected registration fees to deposit the funds without delay.

Minister Moyo said:

“We encourage that the centres that had collected registration fees should proceed and deposit the fees with the Zimbabwe School Examinations banking institution so that it does not disrupt the preparations for the November 2026 examinations.”

The directive suggests that authorities want to ensure that logistical preparations for the examinations continue smoothly despite the extended deadline.

The extension comes at a time when many parents have raised concerns about financial challenges affecting their ability to pay examination fees on time.

However, Minister Moyo did not announce any changes to examination fees or the examination timetable itself. The extension only affects the registration deadline for November 2026 examinations.

The extension now gives schools, parents and candidates additional time to complete registration processes ahead of the November 2026 ZIMSEC examinations.

No further changes regarding examination dates or procedures were announced.
