Zim Government Gives Civil Servants’ Salary Review Update

The government says it is finalising plans for a salary increase. The increase is expected to start next month.

Officials will meet negotiators before the end of this week. They aim to discuss and conclude the remaining details.

Moyo Assures Workers Ahead of NJNC Talks

Public Service Minister Edgar Moyo addressed the issue in Bulawayo. He spoke during the NSSA Engineers’ Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health.

He assured workers that government takes their concerns seriously.

“We all expect that something should have happened; there were delayed processes here and there, but I want to assure the nation that we are actively working on that.

“Within a day or two, there is going to be a National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) meeting where these matters are going to be discussed, and hopefully they are going to be concluded.

“The Government is active on the matter, and an agreement will be made once the workers have put in their demand and the Government has made their offer. Naturally, workers will demand as much as they want and employers will pay as much as they can afford. The negotiation process is bringing the two parties together to work out something out of the demand and the offer.”

Moyo confirmed that discussions will happen soon. He expects both sides to reach an agreement.

Salary Increase Expected in April

Moyo said civil servants can expect a salary increase in April. However, he did not reveal the proposed figures.

He explained that details will emerge after negotiations conclude.

Meanwhile, civil servants have gone two years without a salary increment. Their current salaries remain below pre-October 2018 levels.

As a result, workers continue to face financial pressure.
