PSL Suspends Blessing Muzarabani for Two Years After Kolkata Knight Riders Deal

PSL Hands Blessing Muzarabani Two-Year Ban After IPL Switch

Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has been banned for two years from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after breaching contractual obligations linked to his move to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The decision was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following a disciplinary review into his switch from PSL franchise Islamabad United to IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders.

Contract Switch Sparks Disciplinary Action

Muzarabani had initially joined Islamabad United as a replacement player after going unsold in both the PSL and IPL auctions. However, he later terminated that agreement after receiving an offer from the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The IPL franchise had moved to secure his services following an injury setback to one of their overseas players, opening the door for the Zimbabwean pacer to feature in the ongoing season.

PCB Stance on Breach of Agreement

In a statement, the PCB said Muzarabani would be deemed ineligible for the next two editions of the PSL with immediate effect.

The board stressed that players are expected to honour existing contracts and act with transparency when engaging in multiple franchise commitments.

PSL Warns Against Contract Violations

The PSL emphasised that such decisions are aimed at protecting the integrity of franchise cricket, warning that breaches undermine trust between players, teams, and organisers.

Officials stated that entering conflicting agreements while still bound by existing contracts represents a serious violation of professional standards.

Previous Similar Cases

Muzarabani is not the first player to face sanctions for switching leagues. South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch previously received a one-year ban under similar circumstances.

Other players, including Spencer Johnson and Dasun Shanaka, have also reportedly withdrawn from PSL commitments for IPL opportunities and could face comparable disciplinary measures.

Impact on IPL Performances

Despite the controversy, Muzarabani has already featured for Kolkata Knight Riders in two matches in the ongoing IPL season, including a notable performance where he took 4/41 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
