ZRP Launches Manhunt For Social Media Activist ‘Majaira Jairosi’ Over Fake Police Statements

Outrage As ZRP Ignores Caught-On-Camera Phone Theft To Chase ‘Fake Statement’ Creator

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has declared war on digital deception, officially launching a formal investigation into activist Majaira Jairosi for allegedly cooking up fake police statements that are spreading like wildfire on social media.

The country’s top cops have even filed a formal complaint with X, begging the platform to pull the plug on the activist’s account for impersonation and misinformation.

As the net closes in, a defiant Jairosi has fired back, telling the police to arrest a so-called “Presidential Mafia” instead, as furious Zimbabweans accuse the cops of playing favourites while real crimes, including a caught-on-camera phone theft from a human rights lawyer, go unpunished.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the heat turned up on Jairosi on the morning of April 15, 2026. The law enforcement agency claims the activist has been drafting and sharing documents that look exactly like official ZRP press releases.

“The statements in question are being presented in a manner that may mislead the public into believing they are official communications from the ZRP,” the police said in a statement on X.

The ZRP warned that this fake paper trail has serious consequences for national security.

“This has the potential to cause unnecessary alarm, confusion and undermine public confidence in official police channels,” the statement added.

The police confirmed they have already sent a legal complaint to X, demanding the social media giant step in to stop the rot.

‘Arrest The Presidential Mafia First’ – Jairosi Hits Back Hard

But Majaira Jairosi is not going down without a fight. Just hours after the police announcement, the activist took to his own X account to turn the tables on his pursuers. He did not mention the fake statements but instead threw a massive counter-punch, demanding the immediate arrest of political figures.

“Go & arrest the people behind the so called Presidential Mafia, Luckmore Gapa & Nicholas Hamadziripi, simple,” Jairosi wrote.

The activist then hinted that he has his own team of investigators digging into the police force itself. He questioned why the ZRP seems to be acting like a political weapon rather than a neutral law enforcement body.

“Those behind me have also started digging to establish who is manipulating ZRP to the point that it can’t perform its duties impartial & why it is being used,” he said.

In a separate post, Jairosi doubled down on his defiance, suggesting that the police are being weaponised against him because he speaks truth to power. He wrote that the real criminals are the ones walking free while he is being hunted for a simple social media post.

‘Where Is The Law For Dougie?’ – Zimbabweans Erupt In Fury

While the ZRP is laser-focused on Jairosi, the comment section on their own post turned into a courtroom of public outrage.

Dozens of Zimbabweans demanded to know why the same energy isn’t being used to solve a violent robbery involving prominent human rights lawyer Doug Coltart.

Witnesses say Coltart was trying to leave the venue when a group of suspected ZANU PF supporters turned on him. The attackers slapped and shoved him as he tried to exit the complex.

During the scuffle, his mobile phone was snatched. When he tried to get it back, the situation escalated into a physical assault. The thugs also stole his eyeglasses and smashed them.

Two names kept popping up in connection to the theft and beating: Luckmore Gapa, a sitting member of the ZANU PF Central Committee, and Nicholas Hamadziripi, a district official from Churu in Harare.

Video footage circulating on social media allegedly shows Gapa grabbing the phone and fleeing with it.

Despite the crystal-clear video evidence and a formal police complaint filed by Coltart, the ZRP has remained silent on arrests.

One user, ‘Master ‘Bad Apple’, wrote a scathing reply demanding action.

“You want us to rely on your official channels when you can’t at least update on the thief who stole a phone on broad daylight with cameras all over but because they are Zanupf thugs you can’t take action? Tinyareiwo mhani (Stop lying, you guys),” the post read.

Another user, Jay, accused the police of forgetting who signs their paychecks.

“Please respect Zimbabweans. Why so much energy on a statement that everyone knows is fake? How far have u gone on the coltart cellphone issue and threats and terrorist activities by those 2 groups. YOU ARE OUR EMPLOYEES NOT ZANU PF STOOGES,” Jay wrote.

User MUPARIDZI/MUFUNDISI PETER questioned the very existence of the rule of law in Zimbabwe.

“I wonder which law? Does my country have a law? Where was the law when Dougie was assaulted? Where is the law even after he was assaulted, his phone stolen nothing has been done. The law is silent to some people and active to some, double standard..I come in peace I’m just concerned,” he wrote.

User Chopper accused the activist of simply filling a vacuum left by lazy cops.

“He is simply telling the truth. What has stopped ZRP from arresting criminals who were caught live on camera stealing @DougColtart’s phone & have in broad day issued threats to him. Yes the letter is fake but furnish us with an update. He is simply filling up the vacuum you left,” Chopper said.

User Save wepaMasvingo slammed the police for having a reactive approach instead of building trust.

“Bt you guys respond only when that ghost account issues fake statements…why dont you respond on key issues..this reactionary approach is never the best. You need to keep on building public trust,” he wrote.

User CHIWARA took a sarcastic jab at the entire situation, declaring that the activist is doing a better job than the real police.

“Majaira Joirosi is the only reliable ZRP in Zimbabwe,” CHIWARA posted.

User God-fearing Sinner pointed out the painful irony of the situation.

“Okay Majaira akanyepa (Majaira lied) but is there any difference between what he wrote and what you do? Aren’t you applying the law selectively? Why didn’t you arrest Gapa? Why is it that in a country with a functional police there is something called a presidential mafia threatening citizens,” the user asked.

Even ZANU PF’s own Treasurer, Patrick Chinamasa, has admitted the party looks bad. He warned that if Gapa is found guilty in a court of law, he will be expelled from the Central Committee.

“This allegation is serious and highly defamatory against Cde Gapa, and causes reputational damage to the public image of Zanupf as an ideologically sound revolutionary party,” Chinamasa said.

However, for the furious Zimbabweans on X, words are not enough. They want handcuffs.

“How far with arresting the ZANU PF militia who stole Doug’s phone?” asked user ChaleChipas.John 12:24.

The ZRP insists that investigations into Jairosi are ongoing and that “appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.”

But as of April 15, 2026, no arrests have been announced regarding the violent robbery of Doug Coltart.
