Ben Youssef Explains Msimango Benching as Kaizer Chiefs Rotate in Big Win
Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has defended his decision to leave Given Msimango out of the starting line-up, saying the move was part of a broader squad management plan.
The defender, who had been building momentum in recent matches, started on the bench as Chiefs cruised to a 4-1 win over Magesi FC on Wednesday night.

Single Change in Dominant Display
The switch involving Msimango was the only alteration to the side that took the field at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
In his place, Inacio Miguel was paired with Aden McCarthy at the heart of defence, a combination that proved effective as Chiefs delivered one of their most convincing performances.
Coach Cites Rotation and Planning
According to FarPost, Ben Youssef said the call was not a reflection of Msimango’s performances, but rather a planned rotation.
“We don’t rely on just one player. The squad is large and we need to rotate.
Sometimes it’s about managing workload, sometimes it’s about preventing injuries. This decision was made in advance and we knew Miguel would start,” he said.
Return From Injury a Key Factor
Msimango has only recently worked his way back into the team after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a groin injury.
His performances against Orbit College FC and former club TS Galaxy had suggested he was regaining top form, making his absence from the starting XI a notable talking point.
Squad Depth Paying Off
The Chiefs technical team believes their ability to rotate without weakening the side is beginning to pay dividends.
Ben Youssef praised the contribution of players stepping in, highlighting Miguel’s display while stressing that competition within the squad remains healthy.
“Every player who comes in must contribute, and that’s what we are seeing. Last week it was Given, this time it was Miguel. That’s how a strong team works,” he said.
