Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume Explains How The New Streets Lights Will Help Customers Vet Thigh Vendors At Night

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has tickled residents after saying the City’s new street lights will help customers vet thigh vendors.

Last night, the City of Harare and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works commissioned Harare street lights. The project, also huddled by allegations of corruption, is at an advanced stage and not yet complete. Mafume commissioned the street lights along Third Street, Fifth Street, Jason Moyo Avenue and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.

Speaking at the event after dark, Mafume said the project will help people who solicit the raunchy services of thigh vendors in the Avenues area.

He said:

“I am delighted that we have brought light to The Avenues. There are a lot of things to see in The Avenues. So, sometimes, it is useful to be able to see clearly as people move and navigate the area. It is also the area where our major hotels are also located. So it is very important for people as they visit the hotels and move around the streets to avoid muggings and misidentification, to be able to see what is happening at all times.”

The Mayor thanked the Ministry of Local Government for cooperating with the City of Harare to beautify the city. Mafume explained that the street lighting project will continue and cover the rest of the city centre and residential areas.

The City will also require business owners to improve the fronts of their shops, improve refuse collection, and make night vending orderly.
