The incident happened last night in the farming province of Mashonaland West.

The thieves targeted Batch Farm. They stealthily herded 21 cattle out of the farm in the thick of the night.

The cattle rustlers then took the beasts to a spot away from the farm, where they rounded the animals and slaughtered them. The thieves managed to kill nine cattle in the dark.

However, the process of slaughtering the cattle created noise that attracted people. As they butchered the beasts, community members found them out.

Upon realising that their cover had been blown, the rustlers sprinted away, leaving behind the 13 live stolen cattle and the beef and carcasses of the nine animals.

Startling pictures online show some cut beef laid on the ground and some carcasses tied and hanging on a tree. The rustlers had also packed some of the chopped beef in sacks, ready for transportation. Zimbabwe Republic Police officers drove to the scene to inspect and take reports. They are yet to reveal more details of the glaring crime.
