SA Minister’s Convoy Hits Zimbabwean Mother and Child Moments After Father Is Killed

A Zimbabwean family is mourning after two crashes killed three relatives near Bela-Bela, Limpopo, South Africa.

South African authorities said the tragedy happened on Saturday along the busy N1 highway.

Police alleged that an off-duty South African Police Service officer struck and killed Zimbabwean national Paul Masunda.

According to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, Masunda had just escorted his wife, Beauty Shoperai, and their children to a bus station.

Afterwards, he reportedly tried to cross the highway.

The couple’s 14-year-old child witnessed the collision and immediately called the mother.

Shoperai then rushed back to the scene with another young child strapped to her back.

Second Crash Deepens Family’s Grief

Moments later, another tragedy unfolded.

Police said a vehicle linked to Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi struck the mother and child.

Authorities confirmed that a member of the minister’s Protection Security Services unit was driving the vehicle.

Both the woman and the young child died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the surviving teenager now faces the trauma of witnessing both parents and a sibling die within minutes.

Mathe said Motsoaledi, his close protection officer, and the driver stopped immediately after the crash.

She added that they remained at the scene until emergency services and police arrived.

Police have since opened two separate culpable homicide investigations.
