Parent Allegedly Produced Firearm

According to reports, the incident unfolded shortly after the final whistle when a parent allegedly linked to CBC entered the field of play and assaulted an Eaglesvale player.

The parent is also accused of producing a firearm in the presence of learners, parents and other spectators, prompting police intervention.

Authorities have not released further details as investigations continue.

Police Renew Warning on Firearm Misuse

In the wake of the incident, police reiterated concerns over the misuse of legally owned firearms and warned licence holders against carrying or displaying weapons in public places.

Nyathi said firearm owners must strictly adhere to the conditions governing firearm possession.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges members of the public and organisations who are licensed to possess firearms to religiously comply with the law and stop carrying or displaying such firearms in public gatherings, shopping centres, service stations and other public places,” he said.

Licences Could Be Withdrawn

Police warned that those who abuse the privilege of firearm ownership risk both arrest and the loss of their licences.

“The police will not hesitate to enforce the withdrawal of firearm licences, besides effecting arrests on anyone who abuses the privilege of legally owning a firearm. The public is therefore reminded to take this warning seriously,” said Nyathi.

He also urged firearm owners to ensure their weapons are securely stored at all times.

“Meanwhile, all licensed firearm holders should ensure that firearms are properly and safely secured at all times to curb cases where they end up in the wrong hands,” he said.

Investigations into the Eaglesvale incident are continuing.
