The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has confirmed the deaths of four soldiers following a road accident.
The crash happened yesterday in Bromley along the Harare-Mutare Road. The soldiers were travelling from Harare towards Mutare when the accident occurred.
Colonel Hlengiwe Dube, the ZNA Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the incident. She said the deceased were travelling in a military vehicle.
The army identified the deceased as Warrant Officer Class One Philimon Chamisa. Warrant Officer Class Two Chindowa Lydia also died.
Sergeant Mundicho Wellington Wonder and Lance Corporal Mupemhi Edmore were also among those killed.
Three Soldiers Injured in the Crash
The accident also injured three other ZNA members. Two injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at Marondera Hospital.
Meanwhile, doctors are treating the third injured soldier at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare. The facility was formerly known as KG6.
The ZNA said all three injured soldiers remain in stable condition. The army also wished them a speedy recovery.
Police Probe Underway as Army Mourns
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Marondera has launched an investigation. Officers are working to establish what caused the fatal crash.
The ZNA has expressed condolences to the victims’ families, relatives and friends. The army also mourned the loss of its members.
Authorities have not yet announced burial arrangements for the four soldiers. The ZNA said officials will release further details in due course.
